The Full Story
The Longines we have here is a beautiful example of a 1930s-era pocket watch. Cased in stainless steel with a killer two-tone sector dial, this watch checks all the boxes you might be looking for with a time-only pocket watch, and then some. The dial itself has a bicolor effect with a shiny finish on the periphery of the dial where the numerals are housed. The watch s center has a more matte finish. The crosshair divides the dial into four quadrants, resulting in a supremely legible face.Â
The watch also features an engine-turned sub-dial at six o clock for the small seconds hand. The hands are blued steel, which complements the silvered dial quite nicely. A trio of stylized Arabic numerals are located at three, nine, and 12 o clock, with stick markers in the other positions. With a diameter of 46mm, this watch has a large size, which would make it a perfect desk companion while working at home or in the office.
If this watch s design looks familiar to you, there s a good reason for it. Longines released the Heritage Classic Sector  last fall, which was based off a 1934 Longines wristwatch with a very similar dial to the pocket watch we have here.Â
According to the Longines archives, this pocket watch was originally invoiced on February 3, 1938, to the company Löwith, who at the time was the agent for Longines in Austria. This watch is in overall very nice condition, especially considering it is 82 years old. The dial is honest with signs of wear and has remained original throughout its life The case is also quite nice with intact edges.Â
